We know it can be somewhat unnerving to step into a new environment, especially when there are a lot of unknowns. To give you a glimpse of what you can expect, we have put together answers to some frequently asked questions about the church that will help you understand what Resurrection Church is like week to week and hopefully address the issues that are important to you.
What kind of church is Resurrection Church?
Resurrection Church is a diverse, growing community that is exploring what it means to live out the good news of Jesus in everyday life. We are an independent reformed Christian church committed to the historic Christian faith as taught in the Bible.
What kind of people come to Resurrection Church?
At Resurrection Church you will find people of different ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds, and professions, people who grew up in the Billings area as well as people who just moved here from different parts of the country. Spiritually speaking, you will encounter people who are all in different places in their spiritual journey. Some are exploring the Christian faith for the first time, others are returning, and others have spent most of their lives in church.
What if I don't normally go to church?
That's ok. We have many people in our church for whom the church experience is new. We seek to create a welcoming environment for those who are curious about God, but have never felt comfortable in church. We also do our best to explain each element of the worship gathering so that people don't get lost along the way. We want Resurrection Church to be a place where you can learn, apply and wrestle with who God is and what He wants for you. It’s okay if you don't have it all figured out yet, we don't either.
What are the worship gatherings like?
The worship gatherings at Resurrection Church are relaxed, but focused. We aren't flashy and we don't believe people need big productions to connect with God. We follow a basic pattern of meeting together that is traced back to the early church. We teach from the Bible. We pray, sing and reflect. We give offerings and take communion together. We try to make our worship gatherings accessible to those who are new to the Christian faith, and at the same time, fresh for those who have been in the church for a long time.
What do Pastors Matt and Brian usually talk about?
We believe that God wants to be involved in our everyday lives, so we present the ageless truths of the Bible in a format that's easy to understand, even if you've never been to church. At the core of the message each week is the Gospel - the good news that in Jesus Christ, God is healing us and all creation. We believe this message has amazing ramifications for our lives and relationships so we try to communicate it in fresh and meaningful ways each week.
What about my children?
Resurrection Church is a family-friendly environment. We have a mother’s area with a live video feed of the service available for moms and their infants. We also have kid’s Sunday School class available during service for children age 1 to 9, but we encourage our older children to join us in our main worship gathering as soon as they are able.
What should I wear?
Dress comfortably. There is no set dress code at Resurrection Church, most of our people dress on the casual side.
Can I invite my friends?
We would love for you to invite your friends. At Resurrection Church, we do our best to be a warm and welcoming environment for people who are curious about Christianity or who are looking to belong to a community of Christ-followers.
